Resolved Question: One HUGE virus/Malware problem....(Long Read) Super unresponsive computer?

Hey everyone, I need a bit of help with this. I will go in depth with my situation so any experts will be able to identify my problem. First of all, I am computer literate. I just got finished healing a friends computer drastically from Malware and Adware, ect. I have a Toshiba computer, satellite p755, i5 processor and 4 gigs of ram. I don't where this ... this THING in my computer came from, and I don't know whether it is Malware or a Virus. Now for the important details: It started after I logged into my friends computer to perform maintenance remotely through Log Me In Rescue (Yes. VERY stupid). We both noticed how my cursor was unable to select anything on her screen properly. After 20 minutes, it got pretty bad. My (new since 12/17/2012) Toshiba had never been slower. In fact, it would stop responding constantly, and that day, I hit the power button to get it to unfreeze after a while. Huge mistake, for the boot process was at least 15-20 minutes long, and I knew it was something else by then. My desktop would take a tremendous amount of time loading. Everything did. I would scroll over icons as normal, but when clicked, no responsive animation. It was frozen, but I could still move my cursor fine. I finally took the computer to Office max and had paid $50 for it to be repaired. This was after I performed a Factory Reset. That also failed. As it was finally done preparing windows, (I never got into the desktop after factory reset), Toshiba services were installing themselves, but I got a blue screen that blinked and then restarted my computer. This didn't stop. I did read the error report, though. Even the person repairing the computer had some issues, so he had to wipe the hard drive. I got it back, maybe 6 days later. It was repaired. NOW I HAVE IT AGAIN -*flips a grandfather clock*- And I'm not going back to office max. Additional important details: I just got this Thing back on my computer last night. I actually fixed a smaller case of this with ComboFix and SpyBot. I know that some viruses like to hide in the system restore service, so I disabled that and boot into Safe Mode to do some scans. AVG found 87 medium info threats, while Kapersky found none. Kaperksy was also annoying because it had a AVP file in the registry that AVG couldn't get rid of since I didn't have "Access rights" (Access is Denied error in avg results) when I did. This was before I got this huge Thing again. Last night, the computers unresponsive activity was all too familiar, lo and behold, It was a wreck- yet again. I am currently in safe mode, which surprisingly is ALSO lagging out bad. I looked up solutions, but they didn't fit my problem. Oh, another thing. The first time this happened, the first symptom that was significantly unusual was how my internet (Wifi : ISP : Comcast) continually went out. I fixed that, but it was the least of my worries. I have now waited 30 minutes for my computer to boot into safe mode after loadinga black screen after the drivers were loaded. I WILL be rating best answer to the most helpful, and gladly take suggestions from anyone else that has taken the time to read this tragedy... <3. I don't know if it's Malware or a virus, Avg scans are so slow that they can't continue. ComboFix was doing it's thing, but it also took a while. I have Malwarebytes Pro and Spybot Free. My husband and I are ITs (me being more of a programmer and he is hardware), but this is just ridiculous. If you have way more to tell me than the Answer Box will allow in characters, Please do Email me at either jletricewil@yahoo.com or BlackSnowLeopard@outlook.com. If you need more details, I'll be more than happy to provide them. I'm sick of whatever keeps entering my computer, and I hope someone understanding enough will help me get rid of this... THING. more

Resolved Question: Can clicking a link in Y!A invite adware/malware?

Resolved Question: I am unable to get rid of CouponDropDown (Firefox)?

This adware just doesn't want to go away. I've followed all the instructions I could find, including disabling/removing certain extensions, running anti-malware programs (a couple different ones), deleting cookies, clearing cache and uninstalling certain programs, and it's still here. What I have noticed however is these ads for some reason unknown don't appear when I go into private mode or open a private window. I think I'm onto something here, but I still don't know how to remove the adware. Help please? Much appreciated. more

Resolved Question: is spybot truly superior?

i have been using spybot search and destroy and it has been useful, but now every time i get my results up,it won't remove them, and i also got MS security essentials and i do a full scan with it and it won't detect what spybot does and it is REALLY frustrating, when i go to my yahoo mail, every time i change it to "Available" it switches right back to "Offline" and i played an online game called "Desert Operations" loved the game, played it for about 5-6 months, then all a sudden i'm unable to access my account and on top of that my yahoo goes offline,so i used my spybot and it detects not only adware but hijackers and the adware was by IncrediBar which has been hauting me no thanks to google chrome and if any of you guys can help me out with this path SB showed: HKEY/SOFTWARE/MACHINE/USERS,then a couple scans afterwards showed HKUS/SOFTWARE/MACHINE/USERS,and i looked at the text document and it all led to a trojan, but spybot cannot remove it and who ever hacked me knew i had my email and played Desert Operatios because those are the only 2 things its worked on and i don't got money to drop,it needs to be completely free,i don't want to get rid of SB because it works very well,so please help me out, plus i have not talked to my friends for a month now more

Resolved Question: Removing the Getsavin Adware?

Through downloading another program I've ended up with some adware on my computer. After doing some research, I uninstalled all the applicable items via my control panel. I've also installed/ran Malware bytes and Ad-Aware but none of them are picking it up in their scans. Are there any other programs worth downloading or other steps I can take to remove this annoyance? more

Resolved Question: Computer hard drive low on disk space?

Buuuut I'm not completely sure why. It's only an 80gb SSD, but all it has on it is the OS, which I believe is around 30gb(?), and a few programs that are no more than 100mb, if 50. I've even gone through and removed all the ones that I never used so I know for a fact it's not those as I don't even think they total 1gb now. Otherwise I think maybe Office is on it but that's about it. But I'm always low on disk space. I know it's something behind the scenes. It almost seems like every time I shut down, when it starts back up I have less space. Is this possible? I'm not completely computer illiterate and have tried all the obvious stuff. Disk cleanup, recycle bin, reboot, virus scan, adware scan...all that. I know there's something in the background using up this space. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated! Some good suggestions here. I used to use CCleaner on my old PC, didn't notice much results but I'll def try again. Where would I go to delete those 3 caches? I cleared the cache in Firefox but didn't notice any difference, maybe it's somewhere else? Will CCleaner take care of all 3? I should have mentioned it's on Windows 7, and I don't want to format because it wasn't a problem for the last few years, just recently. So I know there's something going on taking up space, meaning a format would be pointless because it'll just happen again. And I do have a second standard hard drive that I put everything on. The SSD was mainly just for the OS and Office, which I believe is about 40-50gb MAX. So something's not right... more

Voting Question: Suspected malware HELP!?

In recent months I have been having trouble with two of my laptops. The time and date has reset to 00.00 and 01.01.2008. Also on one. I have not been able to access my college work from the colleges website due to the computer warning me about the SQL or something like that( I can't remember much about it, isn't that the security?) and warning me how the time and date looks suspicious. I have removed a Trojan horse ages ago. Bit this just worrys me, as my mum isnt aware of this sort of thing and don't want her to fall victim to it.i have used malware bytes while in safe mode. But only one computer shows adware. Is it all safe? And just the CMOS battery ( I think it's called) playing up to make the time and date to restore( the laptops are the same make and same age, so possible) Thanks for the help, it's all greatly appreciated. more

My mac has been running a bit slow lately, I believe its the lack of RAM. Thought I thought that maybe it got spyware or malware or adware, so I downloaded McAfee (mistake #1), and now i can't seem to get it completely off my computer. I went through, grabbed the application file and trashed it, but whenever i turn on my computer i get it always popping up asking to put in my password, and it wont go away till i do. If I can shut down these running programs, I can give my macbook more room to run, so my 2nd question is- how do I stop these programs from running on my computer?I have also gone into Utilities - Activity Monitor, and I see things like google talk (what the hell is this? i dont use anything called google talk), and other things but I am not sure what i can shut down and what i can't more

Resolved Question: Why does Mass Effect do this on Steam?

Okay, I recently started playing Mass Effect on Steam. It's an amazing game. I totally love it. However, I have been having a problem. There's some sort of Pc Optimizer that keeps spamming pop-ups and minimizing the game. This has happened before with games such as Skyrim and Portal 2. However, after clicking out of the pop-up, I would click the minimized file and would resume the game. However, with Mass Effect, it would quit me out. Fortunately, the autosave allowed me to continue on for hours without any problems. This changed today. When the usual pop-up came up and I had to restart Mass Effect, something different happened. THe loading screen froze. It stopped completely, however you could still hear the background noise and music from where it left off. I had to ctrl+alt+delete and log off to get out of it. I've tried everything to fix it, including restarting the computer. THe only thing that works is letting it be for hours at a time and then trying again, only for the PC Optimizer to pop back up and start the whole thing all over again. It doesn't do it for other games. I played FTL also today and it worked just fine. Why is it doing this? What can I do about it? PS also a minor problem. I want to play Portal 2 community test chambers, however the other day the wifi went out. It's since been fixed, but I still can't get the community puzzles. How can I fix this? more

Resolved Question: My laptop can't connect to the Wireless Router anymore.?

My friend is running a laptop with Windows 7. She connects to the wireless router 2 doors up. When they first got the laptop, I fixed it up and allowed it to be able to connect. It was fine for a while and then suddenly couldn't connect. They sent me the laptop and as I turned it on it immediately connected to my wireless network. I took it to their place, and they had already tried cycling the router and modem power supplies. I also noticed that all other mobile devices easily connect to the access point. I removed the router from the saved access points and tried to set up a new one. It can't find the access point by searching because the router does not broadcast its SSID. I manually set up the SSID, password, etc. Now it can see the access point, but can't connect to it. There is a red X that claims the configuration settings saved on this computer for that specific SSID is wrong, to which they informed me was the problem that suddenly occurred and why they sent it to me in the first place. I had to leave before going up to the computer two houses up and entering the router configuration page, but want a better idea for a solution when I return. Currently my only idea is to return, check the authentication method is in fact WPA, and if it's not reconfigure the settings on the laptop. I have an ASB in Computer Science and Programming and an AST in Network Administration and Security. I should have had no problem with this but I've been out of work for a year now due to a disability from which I'm almost recovered (enough). I suppose it's possible something had escaped me but the computer has no viruses, spyware, adware, or malware. All programs, drivers, and Windows updates are current. I used CCleaner to correct the registry errors. All of the configurations for the access point seem accurate with the SSID name and password both typed correctly. I've never heard of a firmware update changing a router's authentication method, so I didn't feel the need to stop using WPA-personal. Any advice would be much appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Internet Explorer Loads Advertisements?

To long Didnt Read: IE opens up advertisement instead of homepage. Is this adware? Read below for more details. I am in a computer support class in vocational school and ive tried pretty much everything ive been taught so far. When my grandfather opens up IE his homepage loads which is Google.com and then it redirects to a random ad website. I searched the names of the sites to see if they were involved with adware and nothing showed up. I also googled this error and found nothing of it so isn't a re post i don't think. He has avast and it didnt detect anything wrong. I installed malware bytes and it found 5 objects and removed then restarted his pc. It didnt happen the first time then it started again later that day. Im assuming there is a program that auto installs in the background (if thats possible) when the file is removed.
