I did a scan of my computer with both AVG and Malwarebytes and they both said that rundll32.exe, located in both the System32 and SysWOW64 folders, is a trojan. Now I've read that rundll32.exe is actually crucial to the operating system, but then why is it considered a trojan by both of these scanners? Also, my suspicions of malware were confirmed when I looked on Task Manager and saw there were about 6 different rundll32.exe processes running, located in both System32 and in SysWOW64. They tried everything and then said my data was lost and the virus was so bad, they would just wipe the computer and reinstall the software. That didn't work either. They thought it was hardware failure or something. They said, I guess a week later, that they had located 72 different viruses and only could fix 50 or so. It's been about 2 weeks since in the root of my external HDD only a shortcut appeared in the root, then once I opened that shortcut, the contents of my HDD appeared in a new Explorer window.
