Siporex Blocks are lite-weight concrete blocks. I want to know what is the procedure of manufacturing it. And the raw material specialy the name of the chemical which is used as foaming agent while manufacturing these blocks. Please help me. moreVoting Question: Where's the controvercial subject group? Well here's a topic for you. NOT for animal lovers?
Getting us there: Whether we walk, bike, drive or fly, animal products help to get us where we are going. The asphalt on roads and walkways, the concrete blocks used to build bridges, even the steel in trains and planes are made using animal products. Animals also play a part in all sorts of mechanical items. For example, fatty acids and proteins are used to make lubricants and fluids. Glycerol is in brake fluid and anti-freeze while stearic acid is used to help tires hold their shape and improve their wear. Although animal products are a natural ingredient in many things, synthetics or imitation substances are sometimes used in their place. However, scientists are finding that in some cases natural products work better than synthetics and may actually help conserve resources. For example, glue made from cow hide is preferred when binding books because animal glue can withstand high temperatures and has the ability to dissolve in water, making recycling possible. Synthetic glue on the other hand melts in intense heat and is insoluble. As well, many of the synthetics we use contain some animal products. Plastic and rubber, for example, are made using fatty acids which come from animal and vegetable fats. Plants and plant-based products rely on animals too; from the fertilizers and plant protection products used to grow them, to the processing methods needed to turn them into usable products. More than Meats the Eye...Most of us associate farm animals with meat, milk, eggs and honey. They also help provide edible products that aren’t so obvious. Our grocery store shelves are lined with items that use animal-based products: either as ingredients or in their production, processing or packaging. For example, animal gelatins are an ingredient in a wide range of foods like candies, marshmallows, flavourings and of course "jello". Gelatin is also a common food stabilizer used in items like mayonnaise and ice cream, "lite" products and frozen foods. Animal fats are used in many foods including oleo margarine, shortenings, pastas, and salad dressings. Animal products are used to process foods. For example, purified bone ash is used to refine sugar and animal fats may be used to control foam in making maple syrup. Gelatins are used to clarify beverages like fruit juices, beer and wine.Animals are also part of the package. Plastic, cardboard and paper containers, the cellophane and wax paper used to keep foods fresh and packages sealed, and the ink and glue used on the label, all involve animal products. Animals help feed other animals too. Pets, zoo animals, even other farm animals rely on animal-based feeds and feed supplements like vitamins and minerals.Around the house: From the paint and wallpaper on the walls to the linoleum and carpet on the floors, we’re literally surrounded by items that include products from animals. Animal products are used to make the plywood and drywall used in buildings and in the insulation that keeps them warm. Refrigerators and air conditioners use freon, a cooling agent that contains a derivative from animal fat. Egg whites are used in ceramic tile and catalase enzyme is used to make foam rubber. Laundry detergents and fabric softeners contain animal products as do many disinfectants, household cleaners and polishes. Animals even give us candles and the matches to light them with. For our health: Over 350 pharmaceuticals come from animals. At the pharmacy, animals give us cold and allergy medicines and the gelatin capsules they come in. Stomach remedies, vitamins and mineral supplements are also derived from animals. Many lifesaving drugs such as cortisone and insulin, and treatments for anaemia, emphysema, malaria, stroke and heart attacks are animal-based. While some pharmaceuticals, such as insulin, can now be synthesized through biotechnology many are still made more economically from animal-based products. Medical supplies also rely on animal products. For example; latex surgical gloves contain tallow, x-ray film contains gelatin, and wool grease is used to make thermometers heat sensitive.Animals help us live a healthier lifestyle. They contribute in countless ways to our sports and recreation. Sheep wool gives baseballs their bounce. Gelatin helps golf balls roll straight. Leather, foam rubber and plastics are used in most types of sports equipment. Sheep intestines are used to string some types of sports racquets while poultry feathers are thought to make the best darts and fishing lures. At the office, animals help to make computers and photocopiers work. Animal products are used in making the electrical circuitry, the ink toners to print onto copy paper and even the paper itself. Factories need animals too. Steel ball bearings and lubricants contain animal products that help machinery run smoothly and safely. Industrial cleaners and fire extinguishers are made using animal ingredients, helping keep the workplace safe.I AM FOR eating, testing, and using of all animal products. And I don't give a damn what vegans think, their mind set is absurd to me.Meth? WTF does that have to do with this topic? Hello, I have this mold that is Foam and I need some ideas on what kind of releasing agent that i can use so that the foam does not stick to the concrete when the curing of the concrete is done. I did some search on this and some people say to use vegetable oil. But i think that wouldn't work cause there could be a reaction with the concrete while its curing or can it not affect it? I really do find math interesting, and I get pretty good grades in it. I especially get a kick out of experimenting with graphing functions. I want to study quantum physics, string theory, and cosmology but I'm worried my math ability isn't high enough. I was homeschooled and I hated math when I was young; so I basically didn't really do much besides simple arithmetic until like 7th or 8th grade... In 8th grade I got much better at math, and I covered 8th grade math and a lot of algebra in a year. I liked math a lot better after I started algebra (graphs>ugly fractions), but I still don't feel like I have a natural talent for it, although I think it comes to me more easily than to my friends I guess. And, it's much easier now that I'm in school and I have a teacher to help me. After I started feeling good about math, however, I got a 48th percentile for quantitative on the SSAT. (No, not the SAT, the SSAT). It was very demoralizing, and now I'm back to square one... I just don't get why numbers don't flow for me the way words do... (I got an 800 on verbal) Do I have any chance at becoming a theoretical physicist? Or would I be more successful with things like science writing and astrophotography? Also, I'm in 9th grade right now. moreResolved Question: Should I build a concrete footer before I build a shed on an existing slab?
I am converting an unused old 3 seasons room into my first shed. There is an existing slab ready to use there now. Before I lay the green treated base plates with my Ramset should I build a concrete footer first? All around the house the concrete footers extend up past grade by about 2 feet. If the consensus is that a footer is necessary, I would use 2x6's laid on side to make the form. Several questions arise from this though. If I do the footer, how do I secure the inside part of the form because its a concrete slab. I will use stakes and 1x2's crossing atop the 2x6 mold to hold it together but will the bottom bow and how do I attach it on the inside like I said? Also if I use a SIKA bonding agent is that sufficient for the footer or do I need re-bar to hold the footer to the existing slab? I really hope someone else is out there and has build a shed on an existing grade slab. If so I would appreciate your opinion. P.S. if I build on the existing slab without the footer I will use a foam sill gasket and PL caulk to prevent water intrusion. But what about heavy rains that may get under the siding starter strip which would basically be touching the ground level? Is there any other issues I may be missing on this initial step to building my first shed?? I am starting on the project tomorrow SUNDAY 7/25/10 so any information soon is most welcome.I considered CMUs but what about joining the base plates to the "end grain" of the CMU? Won't the thin portion of the CMU crack and fissure if I try to use a RAMSET or any other anchor? That is my concern but let me know if you have had luck with that. moreResolved Question: how do i minimize noise????
Hey guys. I'm buying lv 87 of the eureka tower shortly and im wondering if the noise from the observation deck (which is JUST above me) is going to disrupt me. the floors and walls are concreted (construction work hasn't started yet) and because its an observation deck, i cant tell them to be quiet. I dont want to use insulation because it takes up to much room. so would i be able to hear whats happening up there? Cheers, Chris moreResolved Question: Tiny ,may be needle size, hole in bathtub what to do?
I was washing the bathtub I never used since buying this house. It appears like there is a tiny size, may be compared to tip of a needle, hole in the bathtub.
