Hey y'all, what's the best, most effective and free anti-virus to use? i'm looking for a free antivirus that can detect the most malware, quickly, (like almost immediately after the time of infection), and effectively remove all detected malware entirely, and a free antivirus that performs at par with a paid antivirus. i'm also looking for a free good firewall that i could use, to monitor the inbound and outbound traffic, and effectively block connections to unknown ip's and sites. i'm also looking for one with real-time protection. What antivirus and firewall do you personally use and how was it like (pros, cons)? I'll greatly appreciate your help. Today when I turned on my laptop, three windows appeared titled "Hidden Start v2.1". I've never gotten this before and have not downloaded hidden start. Okay, so I haven't been on my laptop for a week or so and everything was fine but I went on earlier and I found out that I have a virus. It doesn't let me on the internet, it doesn't let me turn on my antispyware which also needs updating but I can't do that. My I have MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and Wondows Defender as antispyware (I have Norton but messes up when I try to install it and I also have McAfee but haven't installed it yet). I am using my iPad to post this question so I won't be able to download anything just so you know. I have did do a full scan using MSE and after about 10 minutes I stopped it and it said it had found something in the system32 district, the same place where other unwanted files and viruses have been found, but it was quarantined but I deleted it immediately. I have the real-time protection box ticked on both WD and MSE but on MSE it says it's not working but on WD it is? Is this because I can't have 2 antispyware programs running at the same time? But the reason why I can't use WD to sort this virus thing out is because it says it need updating even though MSE says the same but that says it can be turned on even though it just doesnt let me. Now I don't wanna to in to detail with everything which is wrong because this will be so long you'll just get bored but if you've got any questions just ask! If you have any suggestions or if you can fully help it will be hugely appreciated! <3 thanks for reading!I have tried that but it doesn't work, it says the OS drive is being used but it does says I can restore to a point just before I stopped using my laptop for week. Should I restart and try again?Aha okay I'll try that now ;)So wait, I restart it but as soon as it's turning back on press F8 or F10? Because I've tried that and nothing happens unless I did something wrongI can't download those because I don't have Internet in my laptop and I'm currently using my iPad moreResolved Question: Do I have a virus on my computer *URGENT*?

My computer won't start. It only stays at the loading windows bar. When I try using safe mode it stops right after crcdisk.sys. The problem started when I downloaded a free antispyware program. I also run McAfee on there, and I read from online reviews that I wouldn't have a problem. The antispyware program got rid of many adware and a trogan which when scanned with McAfee it would not detect, so I thought everything was fine. But then I received an error saying it was recommended to do a repair and do a restore. It then deleted the antispyware program. I checked for it and seemed to be gone, but when I shut down my computer and tried to start it up it won't start. I read that I should reinstall Windows, but I am afraid it'll delete all my files; I have never backed them up so I don't want to lose them in the process of getting it to start up. Do you have any suggestions? I’m not that good with computers so please use terms I can understand. I don't want to have to go get it repaired but if it's my only option I will. Okay so a couple of days ago I was about to watch primeval on a pirate site (i know it's bad, i'm sorry) and all of a sudden I get the Win 7 Antispyware 2012 popup window doing the fake scan. I've been having a lot of computer issues lately. I run McAfee anti-virus software, but have been finding I still have virus issues and multiple odd things going on with my computer for months. I continually have the "redirect" issue on my browser and any device using my wireless network. My question is (and I'm a novice with computers so maybe its a dumb question) since my router is quite dated (over 6 years old) would getting a router that actually has security/WEP/WPA options provide more virus protection and diminish the chances of trojan issues from popping up?Thanks for the answers. The odd thing is, I never download anything, visit potentially dangerous sites, click on anything that I am not sure what it is/click pop-up adds or anything that would lead me to a virus, yet I continually have issues while running McAdee AND Malewarebytes (I saw someone suggest that, but I already use that too). A day out of the box, after checking just email, I had the redirect issue that next day so that's why I questioned if the router was the issue. So thanks for answering that for me.
